Distinguished Lecture by Dr. Shu Chien, University of California San Diego

Dr. Chien is a retired professor at the University of California, San Diego. During his more than 60 years of scientific research career, he has seamlessly integrated biology, engineering, and medicine to conduct comprehensive studies of the cardiovascular system, exploring the effects of hemodynamics on blood vessels, and exploring the mysteries of the human circulatory system from multiple perspectives, including engineering, molecular biology, and epigenetics. His research results have effectively enhanced the diagnosis and treatment of atherosclerosis-related diseases. Dr. Chien has been highly celebrated for his scientific contributions. He is still active in the academic arena even though he is over 90 years old.


Dr. Chien is one of only a few and the only Chinese to be a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Medicine, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and has been awarded the National Medal of Science by the President of the United States of America, as well as being a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a Member of the Academia Sinica.


Dr. Chien will deliver a lecture on Life and Science on Tuesday, July 9 at 9:00 p.m. EDT, 6:00 p.m. PDT, sharing his legendary research career and life lessons, as well as advising young students and the next generation of Asian Americans on how to become outstanding scholars.
